Cost of a holiday in Ayia Napa. July 2018.

My husband and I bought a package for 87 thousand rubles (breakfast and dinner included) at the Liquid 3* hotel, it’s very cool! All rooms are in good repair, air conditioned and large, which of course was a pleasant surprise for three rubles. Although I would give this hotel a solid 4.

We organized the best excursions ourselves, renting a Nissan micro, the choice fell on it because reasonable price 80 euros for three days! Be careful! Driving on the left and policemen watching for rental cars (if you take them, the license plates of the car will be on a red background)

Excursions to different fortresses, entrance fee is about 6-8 euros per person. Kikos is interesting (free admission) Takhtali Mountains, too, walk as much as you like with beautiful views! Vacationed in Ayia Napa in Cyprus big company. I really liked the weather. The Mediterranean Sea is warm and has warmed up well. The sky is blue without any clouds or clouds. There was no precipitation. During the day the air temperature is +30..+32. It was clearly cooler at night, about +25. Although it was a small contrast, the difference was felt. After the heat of the day, one could feel a slight coolness and a breeze. But, sleep with open window It was still hot, we used air conditioning.

It was the first two weeks of July, and they turned out to be very comfortable for me. But, at the end of the rest, I felt that it became much hotter. Already at 11 o'clock in the morning it was difficult to be on the beach. The sun was hot, we barely made it to the hotel!

Why is it better to vacation in October?

I'm not a fan of hot, humid climates. Summer in Cyprus has an enviable duration. Even in October it is very nice here. A couple of years ago I was on holiday with my mother in Ayia Napa during this exact period of time. I liked him the most. The sun did not burn, on the contrary, it warmed very gently. You could calmly lie on the beach from morning until lunch. During the entire period of time, I never got burned. The Mediterranean Sea is warm after summer. The town of Ayia Napa is located just 40 kilometers, if you move east from the island’s largest airport, called the “Gateway of Cyprus” in Larnaca. Ayia Napa is built like an amphitheater and slopes down the hillside to a picturesque cove. This city has everything necessary for a comfortable stay for even the most demanding tourist.

In ancient times, it was a small fishing village, the only decoration of which was the beautiful Venetian monastery. Late 20th century former village has become a popular resort, annually welcoming thousands of tourists from all over the world. "Napa" means "forest" in ancient Greek. According to legend, an icon of the Mother of God was found long ago in one of the local caves. Later, a noble Venetian woman, a resident of Famagusta, left her home and settled here. She built a monastery with a chapel and cells for monks, a mill and an oil mill. Initially, nuns lived in this monastery, and the chapel was Roman Catholic. The domed octagonal pool in the center of the courtyard was decorated with stone bas-reliefs depicting the noble Venetian woman who founded the monastery, her father and mother, and a lion chasing a deer. In the mid-16th century, this monastery was turned into a Christian monastery, and at the end of the 18th century it was completely abandoned. Now the local church and medieval monastery are perhaps the most interesting archaeological site for tourists to visit in Ayia Napa. At the east entrance, notice a small theater with seats carved from stone. And on the southern side of the monastery grows a huge sycamore tree, which, according to local residents, is more than six centuries old.

The next interesting object to visit is the Ayia Napa Maritime Museum. By the way, it is one of the first such museums in Cyprus. Numerous collections of shellfish living in the waters of the island's free zones are exhibited here, as well as endemic bird species of the island.

The next point of local sightseeing is the small town of Paralimni.

It is located on the shore of a lake, hence its name. IN last years here, on the site of a small village, a large economic, demographic and tourist center appeared. The key site to visit is the three-nave church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Tourists are attracted here by the unusually beautiful porcelain plates from the 18th century that decorate the interior of the church. And in the part of the temple dating back to the 13th century, there is a small Byzantine museum.

It should be noted that throughout this entire area there are many similar churches worthy of your attention. Thus, in the village of Derynia there are three churches: the Church of St. George (17th century), St. Marina (15th century) and the Church of the Virgin Mary with icons dating back to the 17th century. In the village of Sotiras there is the Church of St. Mama, built in the 12th century and to this day has partially preserved its appearance and decoration after reconstruction in the 14th century. Anyone who has visited it can say without a shadow of a doubt that he has touched Cypriot history. The Church of Our Lady of Hardakiotissa, located just one kilometer from the village of Sotiras, as well as the Church of St. George Chordakion (12th century) are also worthy of attention.

The village of Frenaros is located in the center of the Kokkinochoria region. It has become famous far beyond the borders of Cyprus for its traditional folk architecture. The village contains small Byzantine churches of St. Andronikos and Archangel Michael from the 12th century. The Church of St. Marina (15th century) is also interesting for its decoration.

The village of Liopetri is located 15 kilometers northwest of Ayia Napa. This village became famous for its skilled basket weavers. The secrets of their craft are passed down from generation to generation in the strictest confidence. Liopetri also has medieval churches. For example, the Church of Our Lady of Tenderness (16th century), the chapel of St. Andronikos (15th century), decorated with an octagonal dome and, unfortunately, poorly preserved frescoes. Not far from the center of the village is the Liopetri Bastion, where four heroes of the Cyprus national liberation movement (1955-1959) were killed in the mid-20th century after a battle with British troops. Now this object is considered one of the memorial places protected by the state.

In the village of Avgorou, located 20 kilometers northwest of Ayia Napa, you can see not only interesting medieval but also modern churches. In the west of the village there is a cruciform church of St. George Teratsioti (16th century), decorated with a large dome. And a little to the north, not far from the old road Nicosia - Famagusta, there is the monastery of St. Kendea, listed in many guidebooks to Cyprus as a must-visit site for tourists. The church of this monastery, decorated with a dome, was built in the 15th-16th centuries.

Moving further north, you will find yourself in a “city buried in sand.” This is what Famagusta is called in translation from Greek. This city is famous for its beaches, considered some of the best in the region. Mediterranean Sea. Modern name this settlement received in the 10th century. And during the years of French rule (1191-1571), Famagusta became one of the most famous and richest cities in the world. It was then that high walls were built around the city, which are now included in the list of attractions of this settlement. They have survived to this day and now separate the Old and New town. Thanks to a convenient port, fertile lands and the availability of water, which was pumped using air mills, the village quickly turned into one of the largest cities in Cyprus. Today Famagusta is known as the “City of Mills” or “City of Oranges” (the entire area abounds in orange plantations).

Visit the Church of St. Nicholas in Famagusta, which is an example of Gothic architecture. It was built by the Lusignians at the same time as the Hagia Sophia in Nicosia and the Bella Pais monastery. Now this temple is the Turkish mosque of Lal Mustafa. Opposite the temple are the ruins of the palace of the Lusignan kings. According to legend, in Famagusta throughout the history of its existence there were as many churches as there were days in the year.
