Clindamycin suppositories are a medication intended for vaginal use. The drug belongs to the lincosamide group of antibiotics. The medicine is used in gynecology to treat infectious diseases caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to the active substance of suppositories.

Clindamycin.

ATX

Compound

Each suppository contains 100 mg of active substance -. An auxiliary component is suppotsir (the basis for the production of candles).

pharmachologic effect

The suppositories have a bacteriostatic effect: the active substance suppresses the growth and reproduction of pathogenic microflora, blocking the production of microbial cell proteins. The drug is effective against staphylococci, streptococci, ureaplasma, clostridia, mycoplasma and a number of other microorganisms.

Pharmacokinetics

Systemic absorption is no more than 5%. The half-life is 1.5-3.5 hours, but in patients suffering from kidney pathologies, this time increases. Excretion is slow - about one week.

What are Clindamycin suppositories prescribed for?

Suppositories are used for bacterial vaginosis. Before prescribing the drug, the causative agent of the disease is determined. To do this, bacterial culture of vaginal discharge is performed. The result of the analysis allows the doctor to understand whether the infectious agent is sensitive to the antibiotic.

Clindamycin is not active against Candida fungi, but for complicated forms of mixed thrush, the drug is prescribed as part of a complex treatment.

Contraindications

The drug has few contraindications. Suppositories should not be used if you are intolerant to the active or auxiliary components of the drug.

Suppositories are not prescribed to patients who have oncological pathologies of the vaginal walls.

How to take Clindamycin suppositories

The suppository is introduced after performing hygiene procedures.

  • You must wash your hands thoroughly;
  • remove the suppository from the package;
  • lie down and insert the suppository into the vagina as deeply as possible, but so as not to experience discomfort;
  • After this, you need to lie down for at least half an hour to allow the components of the drug to be absorbed and begin to act.

It is best to carry out treatment procedures before bedtime.

If no therapeutic effect is observed, then you should consult a doctor. The specialist may recommend a higher dosage or suggest taking a repeat course. It is possible that the causative agent of the disease was identified incorrectly. In this case, the doctor will prescribe another drug.

Clindamycin

Antibiotics: Clindamycin

For diabetes

The instructions do not contain any special instructions regarding the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus with Clindamycin. When visiting a gynecologist, it is recommended to inform him about your diagnosis so that the doctor can select the most suitable drug.

Side effects of Clindamycin suppositories

The drug is well tolerated by patients. In rare cases, disruption of the menstrual cycle, irritation of the mucous membrane of the external and internal genital organs, and discharge of mucus from the vagina are possible. Side effects from other organs and systems are possible.

From the musculoskeletal and connective tissue side

With vaginal use of Clindamycin, no side effects from the musculoskeletal and connective tissue are observed.

Gastrointestinal tract

Abdominal pain and cramps, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea.

Blood-forming organs

Decreased leukocyte levels in the blood, neutropenia, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.

central nervous system

Dizziness, headache.

Allergies

Itching, rashes, redness of the skin.

Impact on the ability to operate machinery

The use of suppositories does not affect the ability to drive a car or engage in activities that involve complex mechanisms.

special instructions

During the treatment period, vaginal discharge increases, so women are advised to use panty liners. You should not use suppositories during menstruation: you must wait until the end of menstruation and then begin treatment.

Doctors advise avoiding sexual intercourse while using candles. But if this cannot be avoided, then you should remember that clindamycin reduces the strength of latex products - condoms and vaginal diaphragms, so the use of these means of protection during therapy is not recommended.

Use in old age

For children

Candles are not prescribed for children.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, suppositories can be prescribed by a doctor only if the expected benefit to the woman outweighs the possible risk to the development of the fetus or the health of the newborn.

Overdose

When using the drug, systemic absorption into the bloodstream is minimal, so overdose is unlikely. But a woman should not exceed the dose prescribed by the doctor to avoid side effects.

Interaction with other drugs

During therapy with Clindamycin in the form of suppositories, it is necessary to avoid douching, irrigation of the vaginal mucosa, and the use of antiseptics. These procedures reduce the therapeutic effect of the drug.

You cannot use suppositories and medications with erythromycin, calcium, or magnesium sulfate at the same time, as the risk of side effects increases. The same applies to barbiturates.

Alcohol compatibility

It is better to avoid alcoholic beverages while using suppositories.

Analogs

Clindamycin is available in several dosage forms. All drugs have the active ingredient clindamycin. This:

  • capsules for oral use - 150 mg of active substance;
  • cream for topical use - 2%, sometimes it is incorrectly called ointment (more details in the article);
  • injection solution - 300 mg of clindamycin in one 2 ml ampoule.

Analogs of suppositories are:

  • Zerkalin - solution for external use;
  • Clindamycin B Prolong - cream for vaginal use with two active ingredients - clindamycin, butoconazole;
  • Milagin - suppositories for vaginal use.

A cheaper analogue is Klimitsin suppositories.

Conditions for dispensing from a pharmacy

Clindamycin suppositories are available with a doctor's prescription.

Can I buy it without a prescription?

Unscrupulous pharmacy employees may sell medicine without a prescription.

Price

The cost of packaging (3 candles) is 550-600 rubles.

Storage conditions of the drug

Dry place, protected from light. Storage temperature - from +15 to +25°C.

With a wide range of bacteriostatic effects (stops reproduction) on microorganisms. It can also have a bactericidal effect against gram-positive cocci (destroy all forms). The treatment is effective for infection with corynebacteria, staphylococci, mycoplasmas, fusobacteria, and so on. Some types of clostridia are resistant to this medicine. Also, those bacteria that are resistant to another antibiotic from the same group (lincosamides) - lincomycin will not be sensitive to the use of Clindacin suppositories.

Applicable for:

  • Vaginosis caused by bacteria sensitive to;

We have already noted that the most successful form of drug release is vaginal suppositories. They are used one per day for three days or a week. The instructions for the drug Clindacin indicate that the suppository should be inserted in a lying position, as deep as possible. As a rule, such procedures are carried out before bedtime.

Contraindicated for:

  • Treatment of pregnant women (in the first trimester) and nursing mothers (excreted with breastfeeding);

Side effects

Since Clindacin is used in the form of suppositories, extremely small amounts of the antibiotic enter the systemic bloodstream. This ensures high safety of the drug. Local inflammation and irritation of the mucous membrane are possible. Also, if you are intolerant to the components of the drug, allergic reactions may develop. In some patients, the health of the hematopoietic system is reversibly affected (the number of certain blood cells decreases).

Analogs are cheaper than Clindacin candles

The antibiotic clindamycin is a component of many drugs. However, only one more product is produced in the form of suppositories based on it - Dalatsin. The cost of a similar package of this medicine is either equal to or higher than that of Klindayine. Accordingly, treatment with these very candles that we describe will be cheaper than using other means.

Reviews of Clindacin candles

On forums where women discuss their health, there is often talk about the treatment of various infections. Including, there are reviews of Clindacin suppositories as a fairly effective drug:

“I didn’t even feel particularly uncomfortable.” But during a routine examination, a smear was taken from a gynecologist and vaginosis was found. When the doctor said that I needed treatment, I immediately felt that something was wrong with me. But just three days of Klindacin candles brought back confidence. A secondary smear showed the absence of harmful bacteria.

- I was treated with Clindacin suppositories. Surprisingly, in three days he was able to overcome vaginosis. By the way, there are no side effects.

- I read about all sorts of undesirable effects of antibiotics. But my fears were in vain - for several days the Clindacin suppositories did not cause any unpleasant sensations.

These and many other reviews show that this drug is very successfully used for bacterial vaginosis and is quite safe.
